"Sorrento, Italy 6th June"
"Statue of Torquato Tasso, regarded as the greatest Italian poet of the Renaissance, who was born in Sorrento on 11 March, 1544.  He is commemorated with a large marble statue in the square named after him, the work of Gennaro Cali in 1870."
"Looking down on the harbour and our ship in the background. We went down in the lift from here."
"A lovely little restaurant on the seafront where we had lunch before returning to the ship."
"The statue of St Francis of Assisi the beloved saint in the Catholic church who founded the Franciscan order.  St. Francis is commemorated in many statues around the world, including this one in Sorrento as well as being patron saint of Italy."

Some of us had decided to spend our day in Sorrento travelling to Pompeii which is half an hour on the Circumvesuviana train that runs from Sorrento to Naples and stops right by the ruins of Pompeii.  Having come ashore on the tender, we made our way to the station only to find that there was a strike by the drivers and there were no trains running that day.  There were private operators offering to take us that included entrance fees and would have cost us all considerably more, especially as we had already purchased 'skip the line' tickets online.

And so we decided to spend our day in Sorrento, which is lovely but to be honest there is not much to see or do. We had a look round and spent some time in bars/bistros and it was actually a very nice, relaxing day of rest after our exploits the previous day in Rome.  We returned to the ship by tender again and spent the rest of the day by the pool drinking cocktails - it's a hard life I know.
